My Favourite Macro Photography Gear

Over the years I’ve used many different lenses, cameras, flashes and diffusers. I still love to try new things, but I also have ‘my main set’. Here I’ve listed my go-to gear for macro photography.

OM-1 mkii

My main camera and a powerhouse for macro. It’s compact yet rugged, with incredible image stabilisation and fast autofocus, perfect when shooting handheld tiny subjects that won’t sit still.

• Available for customers in the Europe, Middle East, Africa region only

M.Zuiko 90mm f/3.5 Macro IS PRO

My lens of choice is the 90mm by OM System. It’s versatile, gives me the range I’m looking for. Also, this is the only current lens that offers 2:1 magnification with full autofocus and electronic aperture. Allowing super close-up automatic focus stacking. Other brands often stop at 1:1, or offer manual only.

Godox v480

This is my go to flash. It used to be the v860iii, another fav of mine, but this one is a bit lighter, smaller. I like the touchscreen, but it’s not a must for me.

I can charge the battery directly through a usb-C port. Not having yet another charger for a specific battery is a big plus for me. The lighter I can pack, the better!

AK Diffuser

I use a custom-made diffuser from AK Diffuser because it’s light, beautifully built, and gives the soft, even light that is so important for macro photography. Zamir, the man behind AK Diffuser, is genuinely passionate about this niche and keeps refining his designs, always aiming to make them even better. What started as a small project has grown into a family business, and I love supporting that kind of dedication. With the code macrobymarit you get a discount on his diffuser.

Raynox DCR-250

I also love using the Raynox DCR-250 as a simple clip-on when I need extra magnification. It’s inexpensive, super easy to use, and especially handy for very small subjects like springtails.

For me, the biggest advantage is that it’s completely hassle free: just snap it on, and your 2:1 setup is suddenly closer to 4:1, without changing your whole rig.
